Tai Chi Ch'uan is one of the many finest products of the Chinese culture. It is a form of physical exercise derived from the Chinese Wu Shu (Martial Arts) and is based upon the philosophy of Yin and Yang from the Chinese classic I-Ching, (The Book of Change), which is about two thousand years old. Originally the slow and gentle movements were developed for boxers to improve their balance by making use of the opponent's force rather than countering it. This strategy is classified as an "internal" or "soft" style and develops in the student a reflex and spontaneity which conserves energy by using the refined art of circular movements which are subtle and highly effective.

The exercise will increase the blood circulation to all the organs of the body without disturbing the rhythm of the heart or the speed of breathing. In doing so, the process of oxygen assimilation and metabolism is hastened which, as a result, has a stimulating effect on the activity of all glands and nervous system. The process promotes physical well being of the individual which gradually influences the mind and produces mental equilibrium. The final result is harmony between body and mind which brings health and joy for living.
